The NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation will look into what it describes as "inadvertent activation of the collision mitigation braking system" in the two models. Already in 2018, a million Honda vehicles were so equipped. Honda calls its AEB system the "collision mitigation braking system" (CMBS). Tesla has also come under NHTSA investigation this month over "phantom braking" in its 2021 and 2022 Tesla Model 3 and Model Y electric vehicles, also involving an automated emergency braking system. Earlier this month Honda released a statement saying its full safety suite, Honda Sensing, "is now standard or available on all new Honda models, found on nearly five million Honda vehicles on U.S. roads today."
Honda is recalling nearly 1.15 million Accord vehicles from the 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016 model years. The Accord's problem is rooted in the case for the battery sensor, which was manufactured by Furukawa's North American affiliate, based in Plymouth, Michigan. NHTSA says that the case may not be watertight, allowing water to come in contact with the battery sensor. Honda says that it will mail an interim recall notice on July 31, 2017, asking owners to take their vehicles to Honda dealerships for a temporary fix. That fix involves dealers applying an adhesive to the battery sensor case to prevent water intrusion.

DETROIT - Otoritas keselamatan lalu lintas Amerika Serikat melakukan penyelidikan terkait kemungkinan adanya kesalahan pada bagian kontrol kemudi 37 ribu unit sedan Honda Accord dan sekira 17 ribu unit Infiniti EX35 crossover. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) telah melakukan pemeriksaan awal terkait kemungkinan kesalahan pada power steering sedan Accord model 2013. Juru Bicara Honda menyatakan pihaknya siap bekerja sama dengan NHTSA untuk melakukan penyelidikan lanjutan. Selain terhadap Honda, NHTSA juga melakukan pemeriksaan awal terhadao model 2008 Infiniti EX35 crossover yang diproduksi oleh Nissan Motor.
