Mazda Motor Corporation (Mazda) is a Japanese automobile brand established in 1920 with production of machine parts under the name Toyo Cork Kogyo Co. Ltd. In 1929 the company started developing tri-cycle trucks that went into production in 1931 with the name Mazda. Mazda's first rotary engine (Wankel engine) car, the Mazda Cosmo Sports (110S) was introduced in 1967, Mazda RX-7 (Mazda Savanna) in 1978, the Mazda Roadster (Mazda Miata/Mazda MX-5), a small lightweight two seat sports car, in 1989 and the Mazda MPV, a minivan, in 1989. The name was officially changed to Mazda Motor Corporation in 1984, production facilities was established in the US in 1985 with vehicle production started in 1987. Mazda 787B, a rotary engine race car, won the Le Mans 24-Hour Endurance Race in 1991.
