Covering six special stages through a variety of mainly 90-degree junction roads threaded through the estate, Variza ended the day with a 12-minute lead. After winning the first two stages of the day Variza slowed in the final two with Frisiero fastest.

Alhasil, mesin ini pun jika digali ulang bakal mendapat performa yang lebih beringas. Peluncurannya saat itu terdiri dari beragam varian mesin dari mulai 276 hp sampai 287 hp. Evo IX satu ini memfokuskan sektor modifikasi mesin supaya sanggup memuntahkan tenaga 706 hp (526 kW). Sebuah turbocharger besar kini dijejalkan untuk mendoping mesin supaya dapat menghasilkan kecepatan tinggi.
