GridOto - Jangan kaget kalau Yamaha ternyata sering mengembangkan mesin mobil, nah salah satunya ternyata mesin 4A-GE yang ditempel di Corolla AE86. Banyak varian dari mesin Toyota 4A-GE yang seluruhnya berkubikasi 1.587 cc, tercatat ada yang 16 klep, 20 klep, plus satu tipe yang pakai supercharger! The Josh Toyota 4A-GE Red TopBerlanjut ke generasi ketiga dari mesin Toyota 4A-GE yang menggunakan 16 klep muncul pada tahun 1988. Kiprah Toyota dan Yamaha di mesin 4A-GE ini berakhir pada tahun 1998, sedangkan mobil terakhir yang pakai mesin ini adalah Corolla RSi dan RXi (E110) yang terakhir dijual pada tahun 2002. Enggak nyangka ya, Yamaha ternyata punya andil dalam mengembangkan salah satu mesin Toyota yang legendaris ini.

Melihat penamaannya, Toyota 4A-GE berarti generasi keempat dari mesin berseri A, G menandakan pakai DOHC, lalu E menandakan sudah injeksi. Banyak varian dari mesin Toyota 4A-GE yang seluruhnya berkubikasi 1.587 cc, tercatat ada yang 16 klep, 20 klep, plus satu tipe yang pakai supercharger! Generasi pertama mesin 4A-GE tahun 1983 (Blue Top) dengan 16 klep mulai dipakai di Toyota Corolla AE86 punya muntahan tenaga maksimal 112 dk di 6.600 rpm (versi Amerika Serikat) dan 128 dk (versi JDM).
