A new image leaked online indicates that Toyota Motor Corporation has filed a design patent for the Agya hatchback in India. Developed by Toyota's subsidiary brand, Daihatsu, the hatchback is sold in several Asian markets as Daihatsu Alya, Toyota Agya and Wigo. The company uses the Agya name in Indonesia and South Africa, and the recent design patents filed in India are also claimed to be under the name Toyota Agya. The car comes with a sporty, slightly tall-boy-ish stance that makes it stand out, and if launched in India, could be a great addition to Toyota's India line-up. Launched in 2012, the Toyota Agya received its second facelift in 2020 and that is the model in the patent imageInside, the global-spec Toyota Agya comes with an all-black cabin with fabric upholstery.
The design of the Toyota Agya has been patented in India as the image shows the presence of a hexagonal front grille with a large opening, triangular fog lamp housing, sleek headlamps, alloy wheels and a compact overall profile. The styling sticks by the facelifted Toyota Agya introduced in Indonesia just a year ago. The Agya is the Indo-spec Perodua Axia and is sold in multiple variants including 1.0 G, 1.2 G and 1.2 G TRD. In the 1.2 G TRD, body-coloured trim with contrast red accents and TRD badging close to the A-pillars are available. The rear of the Toyota Agya gets an upright single-piece tailgate, roof-mounted spoiler, tail lamps with L-shaped graphics, an aggressive bumper and chrome trim.
In some markets, Toyota didn't want to offer a budget vehicle that could spoil the big company name, so it let Daihatsu sell it as a sub-brand. The Toyota badge was better known in other markets, and it was selected as a preferred brand to sell the small MPV. Unfortunately, the small vehicle was not available in the European or the North-American markets, selling it in significant volumes. Despite being a small, budget vehicle, it offered adequate comfort features and a sound system with a USB port and a CD-player. Under the hood, Toyota installed a choice of two gasoline engines that offered 68 hp and 88 hp, respectively.
