OverviewToyota's halo sports car, the 2023 GR Supra, delivers enough excitement, style, and drama to make up for the brand's more sedate sedans, hatchbacks, and SUVs. Developed and built alongside the BMW Z4 convertible, the GR Supra offers similar build quality and simpler—but still handsome—interior materials inside. Pricing and Which One to BuyAlthough there's little driving emotion lost with the four-cylinder GR Supra 2.0, we think the ripping acceleration of the six-cylinder 3.0 is worth the added cost. The one negative we found with the performance of our long-term GR Supra was the ease with which it got stuck in snow. On our 75-mph highway fuel-economy test route, the six-cylinder GR Supra exceeded its highway rating by delivering 34 mpg; with the turbo four, the GR Supra delivered a stellar 38 mpg.
The 2020 Toyota Supra infamously shares a lot of its mechanics with the new BMW Z4, including its engine. Lucky for Toyota, the Supra’s 335 horsepower single-turbo straight six is extremely capable, and one racing team is trying to push it to make a whopping 1,000 horsepower. (The 2020 BMW Z4 already claims to get more power out of this same engine, delivering 382 HP, so there’s always room to grow.) You also get to see some of the cosmetic flair, like repainting the valve cover red for a literal cherry on top.

In the past ten years, there have only been a handful of cars that the whole world waited on. Now we’re hearing rumors that maybe, just maybe, we’ll get an even bigger boost in the coming years. Best Car also says the souped-up Supra will be limited to 200 units, and we don’t know if they’re coming here. Best Car says that the Supra will finish this current run in 2025, and that no replacement is planned. As expected, a Toyota rep said he had not heard about this, and wouldn’t speculate on future product

You’ve probably seen your fair share of videos featuring the Toyota Supra being drag raced against a BMW with the same B58 engine. In the other corner, the Toyota Supra 3.0 had its B58 upgraded by UK-based SRD Tuning to the same power. It was more of the same in the second drag race, with the BMW abusing its poor rear tires. With grip no longer being an issue in the rolling race, the M140i performed far better. The third and final rolling race was extremely close, a proverbial photo finish showing the M140i was first.
