Toyota’s GR Sport model range welcomes its latest member: this is the new Toyota Yaris GR Sport for the European market, with sales starting from the second quarter of 2022. Despite its sporty character, the Yaris GR Sport shouldn’t be confused with the GR Yaris hot hatch. Unlike the latter which is a rally-bred homologation special featuring many unique components, the Yaris GR Sport is nothing more than a mildly spiced up Yaris supermini. The new Yaris GR Sport also features underfloor braces on both sides for increased rigidity and additional liners inside the wheel housings for reduced drag. Toyota didn’t release the pricing of the Yaris GR Sport but we suspect it will sit at the top of the range in terms of the five-door variant.

Toyota is adding a GR Sport version of its hybrid Yaris supermini for 2022. Not to be confused with the powerful, expensive (and non-hybrid) Toyota GR Yaris three-door, the Yaris GR Sport is simply another trim level to sit alongside the existing options of Icon, Design, Dynamic and Excel in the regular Yaris range. Inside, you'll immediately notice the GR Sport logos on the headrests and steering wheel, as well as a silver finish on the centre console and doors and new seat trim. The Yaris GR Sport gets no more power than the rest of the range, and like the entire UK Yaris line-up, is only available with a 1.5-litre petrol-electric hybrid engine and a CVT gearbox. No exact price or UK launch date for the Yaris GR Sport has been issued yet, but Toyota says it'll be available to order across Europe "in the second quarter of 2022".

The Toyota Yaris GR isn't a roadgoing WRC car, but it does get impressively close, having been created by Gazoo Racing, Toyota's in-house motorsports arm. We drove the Yaris GR in England, on damp and twisty roads almost perfectly suited to demonstrating the talents of this all-wheel-drive hot hatch. Sadly, there are no plans to bring the Yaris GR to the United States. In an ironic twist of fate—given its reason for being—the one thing the Yaris GR will miss is a competition-spec sibling. Toyota's 2021 WRC entrant was set to be based on the Yaris GR, but COVID-19 caused testing to be halted.
Specifically, it’s a Yaris GR Sport GT7 Edition. Save for little Gran Turismo logo stickers on the front wings and a small GT plaque near the gear selector, it all seems to be as per the regular Yaris GR Sport. As a reminder, that car channels some of the hotter GR Yaris‘ spirit via styling and handling tweaks, which are combined with a 1.5-litre hybrid powertrain. The GR Sport GT7 is part of a range of collaborations between PlayStation and Toyota. PS is sponsoring the Gazoo Racing Iberian Cup, for instance, while Toyota will be supplying one of these GT7 Editions as a prize in the second Spanish Gran Turismo Championship.
The automaker's distributor in the European country is launching a special version of the Toyota Yaris GR Sport Electric Hybrid, just in time for the arrival of the new Gran Turismo racing video game. The Toyota Yaris GR Sport GT7 Edition is limited to just 100 units and most importantly, it comes with a lot of freebies guaranteed to whet the appetite of PlayStation fanatics. Called the Yaris GR Sport GT7 Edition, this special-edition model comes with a few special touches that distinguish it from the standard Yaris. The winner of this e-sports event will bring home a brand-new Yaris GR Sport GT7 Edition. Sony’s partnership with Toyota Spain also extends to their upcoming one-make racing event called the Toyota Gazoo Racing Iberian Cup. This racing event will use the Toyota GR Yaris RZ that’s been prepared for this competition.
